This is the second pattern in my Epiphany series and offers a single pattern worked in two different ways. ​Knitting always offers me a chance to learn and play, and sometimes there is an epiphany too.

Skill Level: Advanced beginner

Materials:

• 1 skein fingering weight yarn such as: Pemaquid (100% Superwash merino); Eastport (80% merino, 20% silk); Casco (60% Superwash merino, 30% bamboo, 10% nylon); Queen City (90% Superwash Targhee wool, 10% nylon); or Monhegan (100% Superwash merino).

• 1 x 32 [80 cm] or longer circular needle in US 5 [3.75 mm] or 6 [4 mm], or size needed to obtain gauge

• 1 x circular needle of any length in US 8 [5 mm] for bind off (optional)

• Darning needle or crochet hook for weaving ends

• 4 stitch markers

Gauge: 20 sts and 32 rows = 4” [10 cm] in garter stitch

20 sts and 30 rows = 4” [10 cm] in stockinette stitch

Notes: This shawl is worked from the top down, with increases at each side on every row and yarn over increases along the spine every other row. This creates a shawl with a nice wingspan and good shoulder coverage. The lace section is set at the bottom, and you are free to adjust the proportions of the lace to suit your own sense of beauty. ​In the first version (Epiphany #2), the shawl is worked in garter stitch until the lace panel. The second version (Epiphany #3) is worked in stockinette. ​Proportions and drape will change depending on which version you knit, but both are designed for ​approximately 430 yards of fingering weight yarn. As with many shawl patterns, you are welcome to choose heavier yarns, simply note that yardage needs will change.
