Join us for our retreat in Downeast Maine this July.

Our annual retreat on the Bold Coast focuses on beautiful fibers, incredible food, and the breath-taking qualities of this unique landscape.

Join us as we explore the wonderful world of wool together.

Relax with your favorite project in a comfortable armchair or on the sunny deck and soak up some summer.

"These retreats have been incredibly relaxing, inspiring and rejuvenating. They have also provided a wonderful opportunity to forge new friendships. The setting is enchanting and the days are filled with the perfect blend of instruction, local exploration and time to knit".
"I had no real expectations other than a few days on a stretch of the Maine coast that I hadn’t really seen. I knew Jodi, although not well, but no one else. What a treat this turned out to be. The house is wonderful, full of character and cozy sun filled rooms. Jodi and Andrea prepared amazing meals that had us all lingering in the big family kitchen. While there were plenty of things to do, including projects and day trips, there was no pressure to do, or not do, anything. I admit, I did very little. I walked the beach, mud flats, and meadows. I dozed on the deck. I chatted and knit in the sun room, and I collected rocks on Jasper Beach. It was the most relaxing, welcoming, comfortable retreat I’ve been to. So much so that none of us wanted to leave. This year  the addition of Amelia Poole, who I’ve taken classes from in the past, puts it on the top of my list. There are a lot of wonderful fiber retreats in Maine every year and I love to explore them but this one is truly worth repeating".

*New to the retreat, a day-long eco-printing workshop with Amelia Poole of Ecouture*

Amelia Poole is an artist raised by scientists who brings her love of fibers and textiles, botany, chemistry, and history to her teaching and textile art. She received a BA and MFA in Woven and Printed Textile Design and Construction from the Surrey Institute of Art and Design, Farnham, Surrey, UK. Her current work focuses on using natural dyes, local and traditional, to create extraordinary color, pattern and texture on cloth and paper.
Eco-Printing - Here in Maine, we are surrounded by nature and wrapped in textiles. Why not combine the two? Eco-printed cloth is created by layering prepared silk, linen, paper and other materials with local plants and flowers. The cloth or paper and leaves are bundled together, tightly bound and steamed. This process creates a permanent transfer of pigment from the leaves to the material. No external dyes, inks or paints are used in eco-printing. All color and pattern come from the plants themselves! Release extraordinary secrets from local plants we see every day and often take for granted.
Participants will print/dye a variety of prepared silk, linen and cotton cloth.  We will also experiment with eco-prints on paper.  Each student will complete a silk scarf,  1/4 yard each of cotton, silk/linen, spun silk broadcloth, linen, and whatever else I’m excited about for a total of 6 cloth samples; and 16 pieces of paper.
Feedback from students:  "It was the best class I have ever taken!"  (BW, Maine)  "You bewitched us with your knowledge, creativity and enthusiasm."  (BN, Maine)  "Nothing can ever compare to the magical day that (was) yesterday."  (SH, New Hampshire)  "Your presentation and instructions were so professional and understandable, and I'm thrilled with what I produced!" (LY, Maine)
